Bean bags are easy to make if your have never tried it. You can fill it, create up to 10 beanbag sets, or even make a zero-sew beanbag chair. All of these projects are completely doable, and the rewards are immeasurable.
Sewing a complete set of 10 bean bags
Make a set of bean bags by sewing a square of fabric into a cylinder. Measure the length of each rectangle and cut the seam allowance accordingly. To minimize bulk, fold the fabric in half. Fill the cylinder with approximately half a cup of dried beans.

Cut a rectangle of fabric measuring 4 1/2 by 4 inches. Use a rotary tool to reduce the size of muslin or cut them into smaller pieces. To avoid damaging the muslin fabric, ensure that you use a safe cutting surface and use a safety pin. Continue this process to make all the cylinders.
You should choose a fabric that is strong yet easy to work with. Avoid using synthetic fabric and go for a denim fabric. It is readily available and easy to work with. Beanbags made with recycled jeans can be made from denim jeans. They are great for stacking, tagging, and hiding-and seek.
No-sew bean bag chair
Bean bag chairs are a great way to make a comfortable chair for your home. You can make your chair from fabric and small plastic pellets. Fill the sack 3/4 full with beans, pellets or other small items. Close the bag using a zipper.
This project is both easy and fun for adults and kids. It does not require any sewing skills, and can be completed within a two-week time frame. If you are not an expert sewer, you can use a hot glue gun to seal the felt fabric closed, creating a soft, colorful covering for your bean bag. This is a great way to learn.

A bean bag chair that is no-sew can also include the filling. Some bean bags are made with plastic pellets and styrofoam beads that can be harmful to children. The better alternative is to use non-toxic poly pellets. They are biodegradable, and can be bought in bulk bags. Polystyrene filler is lightweight enough to fit the inside of a bean bag chair. The filler can be mixed with a water-soluble glue to create a waterproof cover.
